Nexo Brings Compliant Cryptocurrency-Collateralized Lending to Australian Market

The digital asset platform Nexo has rolled out cryptocurrency-collateralized credit facilities under Australian regulation, enabling customers to obtain liquidity in AUD or stablecoins through loans secured by their crypto holdings.

Following its registration as a credit representative under the National Consumer Credit Protection Act in Australia, Nexo Australia has introduced cryptocurrency-collateralized credit facilities, according to a Tuesday statement provided to Cointelegraph by the company.

The newly available credit facilities enable qualified customers to obtain loans in Australian dollars or stablecoins while pledging their digital currencies as collateral, eliminating the need to liquidate their crypto holdings.

Loan proceeds are typically accessible within a 24-hour timeframe and feature flexible repayment options, with no set maturity dates or loan origination charges. Annual percentage rates span from 0.9% to 21.9%, with variations based on the specific credit facility type and the customer's membership tier level.

Customers have the option to select between Smart and Standard credit facility products, according to Peter Stanhope, general manager at Nexo Australia, in his comments to Cointelegraph.

The main differences are in rates, asset selection, and how client collateral is managed if their [loan-to-value ratio] rises.

According to Nexo, utilizing digital assets as loan collateral involves margin-call and liquidation exposure, which means customers face the possibility of losing a portion or the entirety of their pledged collateral should its market value decline.

This achievement positions Nexo among a select group of cryptocurrency platforms providing regulated cryptocurrency-backed lending products to customers in Australia. In May 2026, Block Earner achieved the distinction of becoming the first cryptocurrency business in Australia to obtain its own Australian Credit License from ASIC.

Nexo Australia maintains registration with AUSTRAC, the nation's anti-money laundering regulatory body, operating as a virtual asset service provider and holds membership status with the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA).
