Digital X Emerges as Centerpiece of Mirae Asset's $109B Digital Asset Strategy
Major South Korean financial institution Mirae Asset unveils ambitious $109 billion digital asset venture through Digital X, encompassing cryptocurrency, stablecoins, asset tokenization and RWA initiatives.

Mirae Asset, a prominent South Korean financial services conglomerate, has announced intentions to develop a digital asset enterprise valued at 150 trillion won ($109 billion) with Digital X at its core—the cryptocurrency trading platform previously operating under the name Korbit, as reported by The Korea Times.
According to the publication, the strategic focus for Digital X encompasses multiple areas including cryptocurrency trading, stablecoin development, tokenization of real-world assets, and security token offerings. The platform intends to tokenize tangible commodities such as gold, silver, and electricity as part of its broader strategy.
These ambitious growth initiatives come on the heels of Mirae Asset Consulting's purchase of a controlling 97.15% ownership position in Korbit during July, with the total transaction value reaching 141.4 billion won. Following the acquisition, the platform underwent a complete rebrand to Digital X, representing a historic milestone as the first instance of a South Korean financial group affiliate obtaining majority control of a domestically-based cryptocurrency exchange.
Established in 2013, Korbit holds the distinction of being South Korea's inaugural cryptocurrency exchange platform. However, despite this pioneering status and extensive operating history, the exchange commanded merely 0.5% of South Korea's cryptocurrency trading market share in 2025, based on data from the country's Fair Trade Commission.
Park Hyeon-joo, the founder and chairman of Mirae Asset, presented these strategic plans during an employee gathering for Digital X held in Seoul on Wednesday. "Our initial goal is to make Digital X a core pillar of 'Mirae Asset 3.0,'" he said, according to The Korea Times.
Earlier this week on Monday, Digital X implemented a promotional initiative eliminating trading fees on all cryptocurrency pairs denominated in Korean won, with this zero-commission structure scheduled to remain in effect until Aug. 24, 2027.
