Crypto ETF Interest Grows in Thailand Despite Zero Formal Applications, SEC Confirms
Thailand's securities regulator confirms interest from multiple firms seeking to launch spot cryptocurrency ETFs, though formal applications are yet to be submitted and approval timelines remain unclear.

The newly established framework for spot cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in Thailand is generating significant interest among asset management firms, though the country's regulator has not yet processed a single formal application.
Multiple asset management firms have initiated consultations with Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regarding the potential launch of crypto ETFs, according to a statement the regulatory body provided to Cointelegraph on Thursday.
"However, no asset management company has yet submitted an application for approval to establish a crypto ETF," the SEC said, without identifying the companies involved.
The regulatory authority further indicated that it remains premature to predict whether initial products will secure approval prior to the conclusion of 2026, emphasizing that the schedule would be contingent upon the preparedness of applicants, the thoroughness of regulatory examinations and the fulfillment of investor protection standards.
The recently implemented crypto ETF regulations in Thailand became effective on Friday, enabling asset management companies to create domestically listed spot Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) ETFs.
A number of firms are currently providing Thai investors with BTC exposure via funds that connect to overseas-based ETFs. ONE Asset Management achieved the distinction of becoming the first Thai asset manager to obtain regulatory approval for a Bitcoin ETF-linked fund in 2024, while MFC Asset Management subsequently launched a fund that invests through BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT).
