BTC Surpasses Critical 200-Day Moving Average Milestone for First Time in Nine Months

For the first time in nine months, the BTC price has successfully reclaimed its 200-day moving average, as momentum built following the US Treasury's announcement to expand its bond buyback program.

The recent surge in Bitcoin's value has elevated the digital asset beyond a crucial long-term technical threshold for the first time in approximately nine months, providing a possible indication that its extended downward trend may be weakening.

On Thursday, charting platform Barchart pointed out that the price of Bitcoin (BTC) had successfully moved beyond its 200-day moving average for the first time since November 2025, about a month following BTC's achievement of an all-time peak exceeding $126,000.

Traders and analysts commonly utilize the 200-day moving average as a tool to assess longer-term market direction, with price movements above this metric frequently interpreted as an indication of bullish strength. Therefore, a sustained breakout above this threshold could indicate that Bitcoin's protracted downtrend spanning several months is starting to lose steam.

This milestone occurred as Bitcoin advanced to almost $73,000 on Thursday, based on data from TradingView.

The leading cryptocurrency has experienced gains exceeding 13% since Wednesday, following the US Treasury Department's disclosure that it would expand the size of liquidity-support buybacks for longer-dated Treasury securities by at least double, increasing the maximum from $2 billion to a minimum of $4 billion per operation starting Sept. 9.

This operation is designed to enhance liquidity in the long end of the Treasury market and initially resulted in a decline in long-term yields, which helped strengthen risk appetite throughout financial markets.

In the aftermath of the Treasury's announcement, Geoff Kendrick of Standard Chartered stated that this action could potentially drive a wider Bitcoin rally targeting $100,000 by the conclusion of the year.
