Non-US Traders Gain Access to Coinbase's New 24/7 Stock Perpetual Futures

In its latest expansion, Coinbase has introduced stock perpetual futures contracts for international traders outside the US, advancing its strategy to build an all-encompassing 24/7 trading platform that combines cryptocurrency, equities, and prediction markets.

The cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has introduced stock perpetual futures contracts targeted at qualified traders outside the United States, broadening its initiative to deliver continuous, 24-hour trading capabilities across cryptocurrencies, stock markets and prediction platforms through a unified interface.

Through a blog post published on Friday, Coinbase clarified that US persons currently cannot access the product, though the company noted it is "working to expand this offering to additional regions in the future."

These newly introduced contracts can be accessed through Coinbase Advanced, which serves retail traders, and via Coinbase International Exchange, designed for institutional participants. The offering provides international customers with leveraged, cash-settled positions in prominent US stocks and major indices, featuring companies from the "Magnificent 7" group like Apple (AAPL) and Nvidia (NVDA), using a structure familiar to cryptocurrency traders from Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) perpetual contracts.

This latest product launch builds upon Coinbase's previous initiatives, which include offering regulated cryptocurrency futures and 24/5 equity trading within the United States, alongside deploying Kalshi-powered prediction markets across all 50 states. These moves collectively transform the platform into a comprehensive, "everything exchange" enabling traders to seamlessly switch between digital tokens, traditional stocks and event-based contracts.

Non-US focus and European futures rollout

The introduction of stock perpetual futures represents a fundamental element within the company's strategic roadmap for 2026, which relies heavily on stablecoins, its Base layer-2 blockchain network and an integrated multi-asset brokerage framework.

In January, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong declared that the primary objective was expanding the everything exchange concept on a global scale, encompassing cryptocurrencies, equities, prediction markets and commodities across spot trading, futures and options contracts.

At present, these equity perpetual contracts remain exclusively available to customers located outside the United States. Within European markets, Coinbase unveiled perpetual futures contracts for Coinbase Advanced platform users spanning 26 nations under its Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) regulatory entity during the early part of March.

Rivals race to tokenize stocks and equity perps

With this launch, Coinbase is stepping into a competitive yet fragmented marketplace for synthetic equity exposure, positioning itself against Binance's equity perpetual contract offerings, Kraken's tokenized equity perpetual futures designed for traders outside the US, and numerous offshore trading platforms offering single stock and index perpetual contracts with diverse regulatory frameworks.

In early March, the total onchain value of tokenized stocks crossed the $1 billion threshold, representing a significant achievement for the rapidly expanding real-world asset (RWA) sector, as the boundaries between cryptocurrency platforms and traditional financial market access increasingly converge.

Cointelegraph contacted Coinbase seeking further information and clarification, but had not received a response by publication.
