Webull brings cryptocurrency trading to Canadian market via Coinbase partnership

Digital asset trading joins the platform's existing stock, ETF and options offerings in Canada as cryptocurrency adoption grows nationwide and regulatory frameworks become more defined.

The self-directed brokerage and trading platform Webull is bringing cryptocurrency trading to its Canadian operations, extending its digital asset presence to Canada after already launching in the United States, Australia and Brazil.

In an announcement made Monday, the company revealed that its cryptocurrency services for Canadian users will operate through Coinbase's Crypto-as-a-Service infrastructure, with Coinbase handling the underlying custody and trading operations. According to Webull's Canadian platform, customers currently have access to 10 different cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH) and Solana (SOL), with the website noting that more digital assets are available as well.

By introducing cryptocurrency trading, Webull is enhancing its Canadian product lineup beyond its existing offerings of stocks, exchange-traded funds and options, now placing digital assets side by side with the conventional investment products accessible to its retail customer base.

Among the factors driving this expansion, Webull pointed to increasing cryptocurrency adoption rates across Canada, referencing research from the Ontario Securities Commission that the company says indicates digital asset ownership has climbed to 25% this year from 10% in 2023.

The growth in Canadian cryptocurrency investment is occurring alongside the country's regulatory bodies working to implement more defined guidelines for the sector, including a federal regulatory framework specifically for stablecoins. While Canada currently lacks comprehensive regulations for fiat-backed stablecoins, the Stablecoin Act, which was introduced in the wake of the 2025 federal budget, would establish requirements for issuers both within Canada and internationally.
