USDC Stablecoin Debuts on OKX's X Layer Network Through Circle Partnership

Circle brings its USDC stablecoin and cross-chain transfer capabilities to X Layer, marking another milestone in the token's expansion throughout leading blockchain networks.

The USDC stablecoin from Circle has made its debut on X Layer, the Ethereum layer-2 solution operated by OKX, bringing the widely-used digital dollar to an infrastructure linked with one of the global cryptocurrency market's highest-volume trading platforms.

Friday's announcement from Circle confirmed that both native USDC and the company's Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) have been deployed on X Layer. The blockchain network operates with Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility, enabling Ethereum-based applications to function on the platform with minimal modifications required.

The CCTP functionality enables USDC tokens to transfer seamlessly between X Layer and additional compatible blockchain networks through a burn-and-mint mechanism, where tokens are destroyed on the originating chain while an identical quantity is created on the receiving chain. This deployment supports various applications including payment processing, decentralized finance protocols for lending and borrowing activities, trading operations and transfers across different blockchain networks.

According to Circle's statement, qualified businesses will additionally gain access to USDC on-ramps and off-ramps via the Circle Mint service.

This latest deployment introduces the second-largest stablecoin globally by market capitalization to the blockchain infrastructure of a prominent centralized cryptocurrency exchange. Data from CoinMarketCap indicates that OKX processed over $975 million in spot trading volume during the preceding 24 hours, positioning it as the fourth-largest cryptocurrency exchange based on this metric.
