Three men from Missouri face charges in Bitcoin kidnapping conspiracy

The accused individuals allegedly made the journey from Missouri to Connecticut with plans to abduct a cryptocurrency holder and coerce him into transferring digital assets before ultimately abandoning their scheme.

A trio of individuals from Missouri now faces criminal charges in connection with an alleged conspiracy from August 2024 to abduct a Bitcoin owner and forcibly take possession of his cryptocurrency assets.

According to a press release issued Tuesday by the US Attorney's Office, Sedric Louis, John Davis and Martel Williams were reportedly contracted to kidnap the victim and compel him to transfer his Bitcoin holdings into digital wallets under the control of the scheme's organizers. The three suspects made the trip from St. Louis to Connecticut, where they proceeded to secure rental vehicles and acquire air rifles for the purpose of surveilling the target.

Following a two-day surveillance operation of their intended victim, the trio made the decision to call off the kidnapping scheme due to concerns about being recorded by residential security camera systems. Not long after their withdrawal, a separate group of individuals from Florida made their way to the location to attempt executing the same plan.

The defendants face charges of conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery under the provisions of the Hobbs Act, which provides for a maximum prison term of 20 years. Both Louis and Davis have remained in custody following their arrest on June 25, 2026. Williams, however, was granted release on bond. Each of the three defendants has entered a plea of not guilty.

According to data from blockchain security firm CertiK, home invasions emerged as the predominant form of physical attack directed at cryptocurrency investors during the first half of 2026. The number of reported crypto-related home invasions climbed to 20 incidents in H1, representing a significant increase from just a single case documented in the same period one year prior.
