Sui's Offchain Tunnels Achieve Record 40.6M Transactions Per Second in AI Agent Simulation

During a live stress test focused on replicating high-frequency transactions between artificial intelligence agents, the layer-1 blockchain's programmable offchain tunnel technology achieved this unprecedented throughput milestone.

During a live testing environment created to replicate high-frequency transactions between artificial intelligence agents, Sui's programmable offchain tunnels achieved a throughput of 40.6 million transactions per second.

During a live stress test on Wednesday, Sui reported that its programmable offchain tunnels handled over 40 million transactions per second, breaking a previous benchmark established in July. The demonstration took place at Sui Basecamp in Singapore, where the system reached a peak throughput of 40,614,180 TPS, representing a significant increase from the approximately 6.1 million TPS achieved during a comparable test conducted in July.

The transaction processing occurred offchain via Sui tunnels, which are programmable channels that finalize settlement to the Sui blockchain upon closure. During the testing period, the Sui mainnet saw the opening of over 10,000 tunnels, with transaction activity encompassing payments, gaming applications, and messaging platforms.

According to Sui, the tunnel infrastructure is engineered to accommodate high-frequency transaction activity, such as interactions occurring between AI agents, eliminating the need for every individual transaction to undergo direct onchain processing.

"Sui is built for the moment when millions of AI agents are transacting every day," said Adeniyi Abiodun, co-founder and chief product officer at Mysten Labs, the original contributor to Sui. He added:

No market in the world needs 6 million transactions per second, let alone 40 million: people just don't move that fast. Agents do.

CertiK served as an independent auditor during the demonstration and is reviewing the test data, with a report expected in the coming days.
