Scott Bessent Leading Contender to Serve as Trump's Artificial Intelligence Czar: Sources
Scott Bessent, currently serving as Treasury Secretary, is reportedly among the top candidates being considered for President Donald Trump's artificial intelligence czar position, Semafor reports.
Scott Bessent, who currently holds the position of US Treasury Secretary, is reportedly under consideration to become US President Donald Trump's upcoming artificial intelligence czar, according to reports emerging just days following Trump's announcement regarding plans to establish an "AI Force" while addressing growing concerns surrounding the technology's potential dangers.
According to three sources with knowledge of the discussions who spoke to Semafor, Bessent has emerged as a leading candidate for the role. Additional individuals being considered for the position include Michael Kratsios, who serves as Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, Scott Kupor, the Director of the Office of Personnel Management and previously a managing partner at venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, and Sean Cairncross, the National Cyber Director.
That said, Kush Desai, a spokesperson for the White House, provided a statement to Semafor indicating that "any reporting about personnel decisions that have not been officially announced by the administration should be regarded as baseless speculation."

In a Sept. 19 Truth Social post, Trump revealed his intentions to establish an AI czar position and AI Force, though the announcement provided limited details regarding the specific functions and responsibilities it would undertake.
David Sacks was previously appointed by Trump to serve as his AI and crypto czar. Earlier this year, Sacks departed from the role following the expiration of his service limit as a special government employee, though he has maintained his involvement by continuing to provide advisory services to the president through his participation in the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
