Pantera Capital Leads $52.5M Token Sale for World Foundation's Biometric Identity Expansion
Through a strategic sale of locked WLD tokens, the foundation secures funding to scale its biometric verification system as online platforms increasingly require proof of human users.

Through a strategic token offering, World Foundation has successfully secured an initial $52.5 million by selling locked WLD tokens to a group of strategic investors, in a funding round spearheaded by Pantera Capital.
Additional participants in this investment round comprised Bain Capital Crypto, Eightco Holdings, Selini Capital, Susquehanna Crypto and various other strategic backers, as revealed in an announcement released on Friday and provided to Cointelegraph. All WLD tokens purchased during this capital raise are restricted by a 12-month lockup period.
According to the nonprofit organization that oversees the World protocol, the capital secured through this fundraising initiative will be allocated toward scaling World ID, the platform's verification solution created to differentiate human users from AI agents. The World ID system creates a digital credential following the completion of biometric verification by users at a World Orb device.
According to the foundation, the proliferation of AI-generated content and autonomous agents has created growing demand for verification systems capable of confirming whether an online user is an actual human being.
The World project was initially founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Max Novendstern and Alex Blania, who serves as CEO of Tools for Humanity. Since its launch, the project has encountered regulatory challenges across multiple jurisdictions due to concerns surrounding its biometric identity verification system.
