Oobit Introduces Virtual Visa Cards Enabling AI Agents to Spend USDT with Tether Support

Oobit, a crypto wallet startup, has introduced Agent Cards, allowing artificial intelligence agents to conduct transactions using Tether's USDT on behalf of companies through a Visa-powered virtual card.

Oobit, a cryptocurrency wallet startup, has introduced a virtual card powered by Visa that enables artificial intelligence agents to conduct online transactions in USDT on behalf of companies without requiring human involvement.

According to Oobit's announcement on Thursday, the Agent Cards receive funding directly from the treasury of Tether, the stablecoin issuer, which eliminates the need for fiat on-ramps or currency conversions when AI agents need to replenish their USDt (USDT) balances and execute online transactions.

According to the Tether-supported startup, these AI agents can utilize the cards for a variety of purposes, ranging from renewing subscriptions to software-as-a-service platforms to replenishing advertising budgets or even "spinning up cloud infrastructure at 3am because a workflow told it to."

Additionally, the AI agents will have the capability to engage in cryptocurrency and stock trading, according to Alex Obchakevich, an advisor to Oobit, who shared this information in a post on X.

Numerous cryptocurrency industry executives have expressed the belief that artificial intelligence agents are likely to emerge as the primary users of blockchain-based payment systems in the years ahead.

In April, Brian Armstrong, the CEO of Coinbase, made the prediction that "There will be more AI agents transacting online than humans very soon," a statement that aligned with remarks made by Jeremy Allaire, CEO of Circle, who said in January that "literally billions of AI agents" will be conducting transactions onchain within a three to five year timeframe.

Oobit pushed this prediction even further, declaring that artificial intelligence agents would represent the "next trillion users on the internet."

Agent Cards haven't launched to the broader public yet

According to Oobit, the Agent Cards were made available to a founding group of businesses on Thursday, with plans to expand onboarding to a limited number of additional companies through June 30.

Companies are required to successfully complete a know-your-business compliance check in order to establish the Agent Cards.

Oobit noted that Agent Cards are compatible with AI agent frameworks provided by OpenAI, Claude, AutoGen and LangChain.

Each AI agent receives only one card, which ensures a clear identity and audit trail.

According to the crypto wallet startup, spending limits and merchant restrictions are applied at the transaction layer, ensuring that AI agents function exclusively within their authorized parameters.
