NEAR Intents Claims to Know Exploiter's Identity, Issues Two-Day Deadline

The team behind NEAR Intents claims to have uncovered the identity of the individual responsible for Thursday's $3.8 million security breach and has issued a 48-hour deadline for fund repatriation.

The team at NEAR Intents announced on Friday that they have successfully identified the person responsible for a cyberattack that led to $3.8 million in user assets being compromised on Thursday, issuing an ultimatum of 48 hours for the perpetrator to restore the funds through "responsible disclosure" protocols.

"We have identified you, sir," stated Alex Shevchenko, who serves as general manager for NEAR Intents, in a Friday post on X, where he also provided three separate wallet addresses designed to receive Bitcoin, BNB and Solana.

"You know better than most how responsible disclosure works — this is the last window to use it. After 48 hours, that window closes."

The platform suspended its operations on Thursday following the detection of what was described as a "bug in the Omni deposit and withdrawal infrastructure interaction with NEAR Intents smart contract."

According to the company's initial investigation, user funds totaling $3.8 million were taken, and the platform made a commitment to provide complete reimbursement to all users whose assets were impacted.

According to blockchain investigator ZachXBT, the assets obtained from the exploit were moved to the KuCoin exchange and subsequently bridged to Bitcoin.
