Hunter Biden Plans Memecoin Launch with Distribution to TRUMP Token Investors: WSJ

Former US President Joe Biden's son is set to make his entrance into the cryptocurrency space following his revelation of a laptop-inspired memecoin on his social media platforms earlier this week.

Former US President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden, has revealed his intention to create a memecoin drawing inspiration from his controversial laptop that became a focal point of widespread media attention.

The memecoin takes its name from Biden's personal computer, which became a controversial topic when its existence and the information it contained faced extensive examination prior to the 2020 presidential election, during which Joe Biden competed against Trump for the presidency. Right-wing media personalities continue to reference the laptop frequently, and it became the central focus of two legal actions that Biden initiated concerning privacy violations.

Following his father's departure from the White House in January 2025, Biden has become increasingly vocal regarding cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, with particular emphasis on condemning the Trump family's connections to the sector via their World Liberty Financial enterprise.

In August, he called World Liberty "corruption at a scale we've never seen," comparing its business practices with those of defunct crypto exchange FTX and pointing to its ties to foreign governments like the UAE. Biden also said in June that "decentralized digital currency and the blockchain are the inevitable future."

According to reports, the founders of LAPTOP, who maintain control of 30% of the token supply, will reportedly burn up to 30% of the memecoins depending on the outcome of events, including a Democrat winning the presidency in 2028, the price of Bitcoin (BTC) reaching an all-time high and LAPTOP's fully diluted value exceeding TRUMP's.

CLARITY Act vote set for later this month

Should the LAPTOP memecoin proceed with its planned launch, it has the potential to draw additional attention to Trump's cryptocurrency activities during a period when members of Congress are deliberating on an extensive market structure legislation aimed at providing regulatory oversight for the digital asset sector. A cloture vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, commonly referred to as the CLARITY Act, has been scheduled in the Senate for Sept. 15.

Cointelegraph reached out to the White House for comment but did not receive an immediate response.
