Crypto holdings in Dartmouth's endowment decline $2M as digital asset prices slide
Dartmouth College's endowment experienced a decline of more than $2.2 million in its ETF holdings connected to Bitcoin, Ether, and Solana, down from the $14.6 million position the institution disclosed in March.

Dartmouth College's $9 billion endowment has seen its cryptocurrency-linked holdings decrease in value by more than $2 million over a three-month period, according to recent regulatory filings.
According to a filing submitted Thursday to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) by the trustees of Dartmouth College, the university's endowment maintained approximately $12.4 million in combined holdings of BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin ETF, the Grayscale Ethereum staking ETF, and the Bitwise Solana staking exchange-traded fund (ETF) as of the end of June. While the endowment continued to hold identical share quantities in each of these ETFs, the aggregate portfolio value declined approximately 15% from the $14.6 million position it had reported as of the end of March.
The decline in the endowment's portfolio value aligned closely with the downward movement in cryptocurrency prices associated with each respective ETF. Between March 31 and the reporting period, Bitcoin (BTC) experienced a price decrease of 7.7% to settle at $62,915, Solana (SOL) dropped 9.6% to reach $75.11, and Ether (ETH) fell 10.8% to trade at $1,875.
The college announced its initial cryptocurrency exposure within the endowment's investment portfolio in 2025, establishing itself as among the earliest US higher education institutions to allocate capital to digital assets. Meanwhile, Harvard University, which manages a substantially larger $57 billion endowment, had not made public its holdings for the second quarter of 2026 as of Friday's reporting deadline, though its previous March 31 filing revealed the institution had completely divested its entire $87 million position in BlackRock's iShares Ethereum.
