BTC Reaches $65.3K Peak in August Following Weak Employment Data That Dampens Fed Hiking Expectations
BTC surged past $65,000 to achieve its highest level this month as disappointing US employment figures boosted risk assets and diminished Federal Reserve rate increase expectations.

Bitcoin (BTC) achieved fresh highs for the month of August during Friday's opening session on Wall Street as market participants digested disappointing US employment statistics.
Key points:
- Digital currencies and risk assets experienced gains following a decrease of 23,000 jobs in US nonfarm payrolls for July.
- Market expectations for Federal Reserve interest-rate action in September transitioned from anticipating a 0.25% increase to forecasting a hold amid indications of labor market weakness.
- Bitcoin alongside alternative cryptocurrencies demonstrated "resilience" following a week filled with negative developments, according to QCP Capital's assessment.
Digital assets and equities climb on weak payrolls figures
According to TradingView data, BTC/USD reached $65,340 on the Bitstamp exchange, representing a 1.3% daily increase, coinciding with the publication of updated US employment statistics.
According to nonfarm payrolls statistics from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the US economy experienced a loss of 23,000 jobs during July, with unemployment settling at 4.1%, figures the agency characterized as "little changed" compared to the previous month.
"The change in total nonfarm payroll employment for May was revised down by 66,000, from +129,000 to +63,000, and the change for June was revised down by 37,000, from +57,000 to +20,000. With these revisions, employment in May and June combined is 103,000 lower than previously reported," an official statement added.
The pairing of negative July figures alongside downward historical adjustments seemed to provide a boost for both cryptocurrency markets and American equities, with market participants connecting deteriorating labor-market circumstances with the possibility of monetary policy easing from the Federal Reserve.
The S&P 500 index commenced trading 0.5% higher, whereas the technology-focused Nasdaq Composite Index experienced gains exceeding 1%.
Information from CME Group's FedWatch Tool indicates that financial markets are currently anticipating the Fed will maintain interest rates at their present levels during its September policy meeting. As recently as the previous day, the majority probability had leaned toward a 0.25% rate hike.
Before the employment statistics were made public, Ryan Lee, chief analyst at Bitget Research, commented that the data would "set the tone" for both the September policy meeting and the Fed's yearly Jackson Hole economic symposium, scheduled to take place at the end of August.
Fabian Dori, CIO at Sygnum Bank, forecasted that Fed chair Kevin Warsh would be swayed by the degree to which payrolls figures declined.
"An orderly slowdown supports the liquidity relief case, while a print weak enough to raise growth concerns can still pressure risk assets even as rate odds move,"

Market analysis highlights Bitcoin and altcoin "resilience"
In its most recent cryptocurrency and macroeconomic analysis published that day, trading firm QCP Capital characterized the broader economic environment as "uncertain" for Bitcoin.
"For crypto, the week's price action points to resilience rather than clear directional confirmation,"
QCP Capital
QCP observed that the consequences stemming from the Coldcard wallet exploit, combined with BTC sales by corporate entities including Strategy, had merely triggered "limited demand for panic protection" within options markets.
Previously, Cointelegraph reported on option traders' expectations for a BTC price trading-range breakdown to occur next month.
