August 2026 Marks Banner Month for Bitcoin ETFs as BTC Surges 25%
Year-to-date net outflows for US spot Bitcoin ETFs decreased by 66% during August as Bitcoin posted approximately 25% gains, while Ether ETFs achieved positive YTD status at $732 million and XRP ETFs hit $502 million.

Exchange-traded funds tracking spot Bitcoin in the United States recorded their strongest performance of 2026 during August, coinciding with Bitcoin's most substantial monthly price appreciation since November 2024.
According to data from SoSoValue, Bitcoin ETFs captured $3.52 billion in net inflows throughout August, marking the highest monthly figure for 2026 and representing a dramatic surge from the modest $172 million in inflows observed during July.
Data from CoinGlass indicates that Bitcoin (BTC) appreciated by approximately 25% during August, representing its most robust monthly showing since posting a 37.29% increase in November 2024.
However, the positive momentum experienced in August quickly dissipated as September began, with ETF flows reversing to negative territory and Bitcoin experiencing a brief decline beneath the $77,000 threshold.
August cuts year-to-date outflows by 66% to $1.77B
The $3.52 billion influx into Bitcoin ETFs during August reduced the year-to-date net outflows by approximately 66%, bringing the total from $5.29 billion down to $1.77 billion.
According to SoSoValue data, June witnessed the most significant monthly outflows at $4.51 billion, with May recording $2.43 billion in outflows and January seeing $1.61 billion exit the funds.
During August's 21 trading sessions, the funds experienced net inflows on 16 occasions, which included an uninterrupted streak of nine consecutive sessions spanning from Aug. 17 through Aug. 27.
The total net assets under management expanded to $99.61 billion by the conclusion of August from $76.29 billion at July's end, representing an approximate increase of 31%. Trading volume for the month climbed nearly 49% to reach $58.63 billion, up from $39.37 billion in the previous month.
September starts with $236M in Bitcoin ETF outflows
The first trading sessions of September saw US spot Bitcoin ETFs experience $236.46 million in net outflows on Tuesday, completely reversing the $216.70 million in net inflows that had been recorded on Monday. This withdrawal represented the most substantial single-day outflow since July 31, when the funds experienced $265.37 million in redemptions.
According to CoinGecko, this reversal occurred as Bitcoin temporarily dropped below the $77,000 level on Tuesday, following its late August trading activity above $80,000.
Meanwhile, Ether and XRP ETFs maintained positive momentum on Tuesday. Spot Ether (ETH) ETFs captured approximately $11 million on Tuesday, while spot XRP (XRP) ETFs attracted $14.4 million in new capital.
The strong performance in August elevated Ether ETFs into positive territory for 2026, achieving $732 million in year-to-date net inflows after concluding July approximately $1.12 billion in negative territory.
XRP ETFs attained $502 million in year-to-date net inflows, representing an increase of roughly 46% compared to the $343 million recorded at the conclusion of July.
