Binance introduces AI agent trading platform with customizable user permissions

The new Agent OS platform from Binance enables artificial intelligence agents to retrieve market information, perform trades and process payments, with users maintaining full control over access permissions and account settings.

The cryptocurrency exchange Binance has introduced Agent OS, a development platform designed to enable artificial intelligence agents to retrieve market information, oversee user portfolios and carry out cryptocurrency transactions on its platform.

Based on an official statement from the company, the new platform is compatible with various AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor, enabling users to grant agents authorization to access account details and execute trades within pre-established permissions and restrictions.

The platform allows users to allocate agents to specific subaccounts for separating funds and trading operations, configure permission settings and withdraw access whenever needed. According to Binance, the company has the ability to monitor trading activities conducted through Agent OS, however, it cannot access an agent's external data sources, analysis or decision-making processes, which take place inside the user's selected AI application.

The Agent OS platform additionally integrates agents with Binance's payment infrastructure and onchain utilities, enabling them to process payments and engage with wallets alongside other onchain services.

Crypto exchanges move deeper into AI agents

The move positions Binance among an expanding number of cryptocurrency exchanges that are making their trading infrastructure accessible to AI agents.

In June, Coinbase introduced Coinbase for Agents, a platform that enables AI models such as ChatGPT and Claude to link with user accounts and independently carry out crypto trades and implement strategies. The platform additionally facilitates agent-controlled payments via Coinbase's x402 protocol.

Alternative exchanges have implemented varying strategies regarding AI autonomy. During July, Kraken introduced an AI-driven investing assistant that tracks markets and suggests trades aligned with users' financial objectives and risk tolerance levels, though it mandates user confirmation prior to executing any trade.

This movement has expanded beyond the trading sphere. OKX introduced a beta marketplace designed for AI agents to discover employment opportunities, conduct autonomous transactions and recruit other agents for various tasks, utilizing stablecoin payments alongside an onchain reputation framework.

Multiple prominent figures in the crypto industry, including Brian Armstrong who serves as CEO of Coinbase and Circle's CEO Jeremy Allaire, have suggested that AI agents might soon represent a substantial portion of onchain activity. Similar sentiments have been echoed by Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao, who has characterized cryptocurrency as the "native currency" of AI agents.
