Billionaire Ray Dalio advocates Bitcoin investment as debt crisis looms

The billionaire hedge fund manager, worth approximately $15 billion, advised investors to favor Bitcoin and gold allocations over bond holdings.

Ray Dalio, who established the prominent Bridgewater Associates hedge fund, has urged investors to allocate funds toward gold and "a bit of Bitcoin" as a protective measure against an approaching debt crisis.

Through a LinkedIn post published on Friday, Dalio suggested that maintaining a portfolio allocation of 10% to 15% in gold would be beneficial for risk mitigation. He recommended overweighting positions in both gold and Bitcoin (BTC) relative to debt instruments such as bonds, pointing to dangers stemming from "internal political and external geopolitical conflicts."

"My guess, which I suppose will be a bad one, is that [a US debt crisis] will come in three years, give or take two, if the course we're on is not changed," said Dalio.

The hedge fund mogul behind Bridgewater Associates, whose net worth is estimated at over $15 billion, has in the past maintained that Bitcoin cannot serve as a substitute for gold when it comes to preserving value, and has raised concerns regarding privacy issues and potential risks posed by quantum computing technology. His Friday remarks mirrored statements he made in July 2025, during which he revealed ownership of some, "but not much" Bitcoin, while suggesting allocations of up to 15% across the cryptocurrency and gold.

Back in 2022, several months prior to a major cryptocurrency market collapse, Dalio indicated that maintaining a portfolio allocation of 1% to 2% in BTC would be "reasonable."
