Avalanche blockchain now hosts 30 million Kenyan academic records
Kenya's new digital credential verification system leverages blockchain technology to enable employers and educational institutions to validate academic certificates and combat document fraud.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has introduced a blockchain-powered verification system for academic credentials, uploading over 30 million educational records onto the Avalanche network as part of a major initiative to fight certificate forgery and streamline credential authentication processes.
The initiative was announced Monday by KNEC in partnership with Avalanche, with both organizations emphasizing that the platform seeks to tackle the issue of thousands of fraudulent academic certificates that surface annually throughout the country.
The new system enables employers, academic institutions and other organizations to authenticate academic credentials through blockchain technology, creating records that are significantly more resistant to falsification. The verification platform has gone live, though KNEC and Avalanche have not revealed adoption metrics regarding how many students, employers or educational organizations are currently using the system.
In a video announcement about the initiative, Avalanche stated that KNEC "is bringing tamper-proof e-certification to Kenya on Avalanche."
The deployment represents one of Avalanche's most significant public-sector implementations, broadening the blockchain's applications beyond its traditional uses in decentralized finance and digital assets into the realm of governmental record verification. That said, the announcement leaves unclear whether this deployment will drive increased demand for AVAX, Avalanche's native token, which experienced a 1.1% decline on Monday and continues to trade approximately 69% below its price from a year earlier, based on CoinMarketCap data.
