BTC Faces Resistance at $83K While US Treasury Yields Climb Alongside Stock Markets
BTC failed to maintain upward momentum alongside equity markets as significant resistance at the $83,000 level constrained price movement within a narrow trading band.

Bitcoin (BTC) remained trading beneath the $82,000 mark following the opening of Wall Street on Monday, as the cryptocurrency market decoupled from advancing equities and increasing bond yields.
Key points:
- BTC surrendered its early gains for the week as substantial ask liquidity accumulated beyond the $83,000 threshold on multiple exchanges.
- Following the trajectory of Asian markets, the Nasdaq Composite Index climbed 1.5% during Monday's initial trading hours.
- Treasury yields in the United States maintained their synchronized movement with equities, pushing the 10-year yield back to 5.13% as major corporate earnings releases approached.
BTC remains stagnant while equities and Treasury yields recover
According to data provided by TradingView, the BTC/USD pair declined to $81,678 on the Bitstamp exchange following an earlier peak of $83,062 during the same trading session.
Equity markets across both Asian and American exchanges experienced rallies at the beginning of the week, recovering from losses sustained during the previous week as downward pressure on technology stocks subsided. The KOSPI Composite Index in South Korea, heavily weighted toward technology stocks, concluded trading 1.76% higher at 5,768 points, while the Nasdaq Composite Index showed a 1.5% increase at the time of publication.
Maintaining a trend that has been evident over recent weeks, Treasury yields in the United States climbed in tandem with stock markets in anticipation of robust corporate earnings from technology sector leaders. Multiple earnings announcements are scheduled for release on Tuesday and Wednesday, with companies including Meta, SpaceX and Tesla reporting results. The 10-year and 30-year US Treasury yields climbed to 5.13% and 5.46%, respectively.
According to its most recent market analysis, QCP Capital identified stability within the bond market as a crucial factor for Bitcoin's potential upward price movement. The trading firm also cautioned that BTC might experience negative impacts from a recurrence of the previous week's technology stock sell-off.
Broader equity deleveraging dynamics could transmit to cryptocurrency markets and potentially threaten the $80,000 support level if sustained. Conversely, a sustained Treasury rally could provide support for risk assets, particularly if accompanied by declining real yields and a weaker US dollar.
Selling pressure at $83,000 constrains BTC price movement
Examining shorter time frames, Bitcoin's price movement faced obstacles following an increase in ask liquidity density above the $83,000 level on exchange order books.
Information from CoinGlass demonstrated this barrier of sell orders applying downward pressure on the BTC/USD pair, with cross-cryptocurrency liquidations reaching a total of $335 million over the 24-hour period.
During these rangebound market conditions, blockchain analytics platform CryptoQuant revealed that Bitcoin whales have been decreasing their activity levels. The whale ratio on Binance, a metric that measures the proportion of the 10 largest inflow transactions compared to all inflows, decreased to 0.45 from 0.54 recorded at October's beginning.
The decline in the Whale Ratio indicates that the proportion of large BTC deposit transactions relative to total exchange inflows is decreasing, potentially reflecting shifts in whales' trading strategies and asset management activities.
