Bitwise shutters Dogecoin ETF after less than 12 months in operation

As of Sept. 9, BWOW maintained approximately $688,000 in net assets. The final trading session is scheduled for Oct. 14, followed by shareholder cash distributions around Oct. 22.

The asset management firm Bitwise has announced its intention to wind down its Dogecoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) this October, bringing the product's lifespan to under one year.

In a statement released on Thursday, the asset manager revealed it would be shuttering the Bitwise Dogecoin ETF (BWOW) as part of efforts to "optimize its product range to meet evolving investor needs."

According to Bitwise's fund data, BWOW maintained approximately $688,000 in net assets as of Sept. 9. The fund made its market debut on Nov. 25, 2025.

Trading for the fund on NYSE Arca is slated to conclude on Oct. 14. Investors holding shares will have the opportunity to liquidate their positions through that final trading session, at which point the fund will discontinue all operations.

The asset manager intends to liquidate the fund's Dogecoin (DOGE) positions for cash on Oct. 14 and will halt the creation of additional shares prior to market open on Oct. 15.

Shareholders who retain their positions will be issued cash payments calculated according to the net asset value of their holdings on Oct. 21, with distributions anticipated to arrive on or around Oct. 22. These redemptions will be processed automatically via shareholders' brokerage firms or other financial intermediaries, as outlined in the liquidation announcement.
