Technical indicators suggest Bitcoin recovery as Binance security breach triggers $1.6B in forced liquidations
Following a $6.3 billion security incident at Binance and declining tech equities, Bitcoin maintained support above $76,000 while technical momentum signals suggested potential recovery.

On Friday, Bitcoin (BTC) maintained trading levels above $77,000 despite cryptocurrency market liquidations surpassing the $1.5 billion mark within a 24-hour period.
Key points:
- Following a decline to $76,320, Bitcoin halted its downward movement as the cryptocurrency market absorbed information regarding the $6.3 billion Binance security breach.
- Cryptocurrency market turbulence was amplified by declining technology stocks following Q4 earnings forecasts. Intel Corporation (INTC) experienced a 26% decline in premarket trading on Friday.
- On four-hour chart intervals, Bitcoin's relative strength index demonstrates a bullish divergence pattern as selling pressure diminished beneath the $77,000 level.
Technology equity selloff intensifies cryptocurrency market uncertainty following Binance security incident
According to TradingView data, the BTC/USD pair fell to a low of $76,320 as market participants reacted to news of a $6.3 billion security breach affecting Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange.

Industry-wide trader liquidations over a rolling 24-hour period totaled $1.56 billion. According to CoinGlass data, long positions represented the bulk of this total at $1.31 billion.

Through its most recent communication on X, Binance characterized the security incident as "complex," indicating that multiple security vulnerabilities were exploited throughout the event.
"We are still gathering the facts, and will share more directly as we have them," it wrote.
Selling pressure decreased following the exchange's announcement that its dedicated SAFU fund, along with additional company resources, would fully compensate all affected users.
The security breach compounded existing macroeconomic headwinds affecting cryptocurrency markets, as US equity markets declined Thursday following disappointing tech sector earnings reports. Alphabet failed to meet both earnings and revenue expectations on Wednesday. Following this announcement, GOOGL dropped 13% to $282, marking its lowest price point since April.

During Friday's premarket session, Intel shares declined 26% despite the company exceeding Q3 revenue and earnings projections, as management provided a disappointing forward outlook. Intel projected Q4 revenue between $15 billion and $16 billion, falling short of analyst expectations ranging from $17 billion to $18 billion.

Bitcoin price charts show bullish divergence forming at recent lows
Examining shorter timeframes, BTC price technical indicators retreated to readings last observed when BTC/USD reached multiyear low points around $57,000 during late June.
Thursday's trading session concluded with price action below the Bollinger Bands volatility indicator's lower boundary, a technical occurrence last witnessed on June 25. This type of price movement indicates that current trading levels are positioned more than two standard deviations beneath the 20-day simple moving average (SMA). Although Bollinger Bands don't generate specific buy or sell recommendations, closing beneath the lower boundary may suggest an impending mean reversion. Currently, the 20-day SMA is positioned at $81,324.

On Friday, the relative strength index (RSI), a widely utilized leading indicator for measuring price momentum, fell to 34.7 on its 100-point measurement scale. This represents its weakest measurement since June 30 and is nearing the "oversold" threshold below 30.
Analyzing the four-hour chart interval, RSI exhibited a bullish divergence pattern relative to Bitcoin price movement, registering a higher swing low while BTC/USD posted a lower low. These types of divergence patterns may indicate diminishing seller dominance and the potential for a localized trend reversal.
