Cybersecurity breach affects blockchain analysis firm Chainalysis

Leading blockchain data analytics firm Chainalysis confirms it was affected by a cybersecurity breach

Leading blockchain data analytics firm Chainalysis has confirmed it fell victim to a cybersecurity breach, joining a growing list of platforms that have experienced comparable incidents in recent times.

"Based on the investigation to date, we have found no evidence of unauthorized access to investigation content, authentication credentials, or session tokens," it said in a blog post on Friday. The company disclosed that certain non-sensitive customer information was compromised during the incident.

According to Chainalysis, the firm has brought on board world-class third-party cybersecurity specialists and is leveraging large language models to facilitate a comprehensive security assessment and bolster its defensive capabilities.

The blockchain analytics provider emphasized that this security breach bears no connection to the recent cryptocurrency theft incident that occurred at Binance.

On Thursday, Cointelegraph published a report indicating that Chainalysis had successfully traced a network of Russian intermediaries who facilitated the conversion of millions of dollars in cryptocurrency to cash for North Korean IT workers.

In a Friday post on X, Chainalysis revealed that suspected North Korea-linked hacks accounted for almost 89% of reported crypto hack losses this year, up from 15% in 2021.
