BTC Surges Beyond $72K Following Two-Week US-Iran Ceasefire Agreement

On Wednesday, Iran's Supreme National Security Council approved a two-week halt to hostilities with the United States, while making clear that this does not signal a conclusion to the ongoing conflict.

Bitcoin's value surged above the $72,000 threshold for the first time in nearly three weeks following the announcement that the United States and Iran had reached an agreement for a temporary two-week cessation of hostilities.

"I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks," Trump said in a Truth Social post on Tuesday, hours before his deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face military attacks on key infrastructure.

The Supreme National Security Council of Iran confirmed its acceptance of the temporary ceasefire agreement as well.

In the sixty minutes after the ceasefire was announced, Bitcoin (BTC) experienced a 2.6% increase, hitting $72,339 at the time of publication, according to CoinMarketCap.

Throughout history, cryptocurrency traders have viewed heightened geopolitical tensions as negative factors for market prices, and any signs of de-escalation typically prompt rapid upward movements in value.

This ceasefire agreement was announced just hours after Trump had issued renewed warnings directed at Iran.

"A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don't want that to happen, but it probably will," Trump said in a post on Monday.

March 18 marked the previous occasion when Bitcoin's price exceeded the $72,000 level, as overall sentiment in the cryptocurrency markets remains subdued.

The market sentiment indicator known as the Crypto Fear & Greed Index registered an "Extreme Fear" reading of 11 on Tuesday, indicating that market participants are adopting a highly cautious stance toward cryptocurrency investments.

On April 1, Trump said the US could wrap up its military campaign in Iran within weeks, claiming the goal of eliminating Iran's nuclear capabilities had been achieved.
