ZEC Price Jumps 12% Following Developer Agreement on NU7 Upgrade Block Height

The privacy-focused cryptocurrency Zcash continues its impressive triple-digit performance this year after developers reached consensus on the NU7 mainnet activation block height scheduled for Nov. 5, though node synchronization tasks remain outstanding.

The price of Zcash (ZEC) climbed approximately 12% during the previous 24-hour period, following developer consensus regarding a mainnet activation block height for the network's upcoming NU7 upgrade, which is anticipated to go live in early November.

According to data from CoinGecko, the token was changing hands at approximately $1,270 during Wednesday trading. The price increase aligned with a GitHub proposal submitted Tuesday by Zcash developer Sean Bowe, which designated block 3,543,405 as the activation point, with an expected implementation date of around Nov. 5.

The privacy-centric digital currency, which employs sophisticated trustless zero-knowledge proofs for enhanced anonymity, has appreciated by more than 148% since the beginning of the year.

"Height agreed at ZIP editor meeting," Bowe wrote, adding that the team still needed to finalize the upgrade specifications before merging the proposal. Two developers approved the changes.

According to the Zakura NU7 dashboard, the upgrade status shows as pending on mainnet at block 3,543,405, with the activation timeline projected for approximately Nov. 5.

The NU7 upgrade is designed to slash Zcash's target block time by a two-thirds margin to 25 seconds, which will enable transactions to obtain confirmations at a faster rate. The transition from the current 75-second block time has been in the testing phase since the beginning of October.

At the same time, the Zcash Foundation's NU7 readiness tracking system indicated that six out of 12 required tasks have been completed, with the remaining work centered on Zebra node synchronization challenges and mainnet preparation activities. Developers have not confirmed whether these outstanding issues could affect the planned activation date.
