Ondo Partnership Brings Tokenized Stocks and ETFs to MetaMask Wallet

MetaMask users outside the US gain access to 200 tokenized American stocks, exchange-traded funds, and commodities via Ondo GM tokens on the Ethereum blockchain, though 30 countries are restricted from the service.

The self-custodial cryptocurrency wallet MetaMask, created by Consensys, an Ethereum-focused software firm, has launched a new feature enabling users to access tokenized versions of US stocks, exchange-traded funds, and commodities in partnership with Ondo Global Markets.

According to a statement provided to Cointelegraph, MetaMask users who qualify and reside outside United States borders will gain the ability to trade 200 different tokenized US stocks, ETFs, and commodity assets including gold and silver on the Ethereum blockchain beginning Tuesday.

Through the integration, users can obtain these tokenized assets using the MetaMask Swaps functionality by exchanging Circle's USDC (USDC) stablecoin for Ondo Global Markets (GM) tokens, which maintain a 1:1 value ratio with their corresponding underlying traditional assets.

Ondo Finance has garnered significant attention in recent months due to its partnership with World Liberty Financial (WLFI), a cryptocurrency initiative supported by US President Donald Trump. Data from CoinGecko indicates that Ondo's native token, ONDO, has experienced approximately an 80% decline in value throughout the past year.

Desktop support expected in late February

Initially, the tokenized assets feature from MetaMask will be accessible only through the MetaMask mobile application, while desktop functionality via a browser extension is scheduled to arrive before the conclusion of February, according to a Consensys spokesperson who spoke with Cointelegraph.

Joe Lubin, who co-founded Ethereum and serves as CEO of Consensys, addressed the limitations of conventional financial systems, stating that "Access to US markets still runs through legacy rails," while pointing to the fragmented nature of applications and inflexible trading hours characteristic of traditional markets.

Lubin emphasized the significance of the integration, noting that "Bringing Ondo's tokenized US stocks and ETFs directly into MetaMask shows what a better model looks like," before elaborating:

"A single, self-custodial wallet where people can move between crypto and traditional assets without intermediaries and without giving up control. That's the future we're actively building toward at MetaMask."

30 jurisdictions excluded from rollout

Consistent with Ondo's strategic approach of targeting tokenized asset offerings predominantly toward investors outside the United States, the MetaMask implementation will restrict access for users located in the US alongside numerous additional markets.

Users in 30 different countries and territories will be unable to access the service, with notable exclusions including Canada, nations within the European Economic Area, and the United Kingdom.

A Consensys spokesperson explained to Cointelegraph that "MetaMask uses a number of methods to ensure geographical restrictions are enforced, including geographical restrictions based on the user's IP address."

When the system identifies a user attempting to access the service from a prohibited region, an error notification will appear informing them that the trading route is not available, the company representative explained, further stating:

"MetaMask is continuing to explore compliant ways to expand global access to tokenized real‑world assets in line with evolving regulatory frameworks."

Growing trend of RWA and prediction market integration

The expansion by MetaMask into real-world assets (RWAs) reflects the cryptocurrency industry's wider movement toward achieving the "everything app" concept, as both centralized exchanges and self‑custodial wallet platforms progressively incorporate tokenized assets alongside prediction market functionality.

Toward the end of last year, Coinbase, which holds the position as the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the United States measured by trading volume, revealed plans to build its proprietary RWA platform called Coinbase Tokenize.

In September 2025, Trust Wallet, the self-custodial cryptocurrency wallet that receives backing from Binance co-founder Changpeng "CZ" Zhao, implemented support for tokenized assets provided by Ondo.

Additionally, both platforms have ventured into the prediction markets sector, with Coinbase incorporating Kalshi integration while Trust Wallet selected Myriad as its partner for the initial deployment.

MetaMask established a collaboration with Polymarket in October 2025, enabling users to access prediction market features directly within the MetaMask mobile application interface.
