ZEC Surges 20% Following Paradigm Co-Founder's Investment Disclosure

The privacy-focused cryptocurrency Zcash experienced approximately 20% growth within a day after Matt Huang, Paradigm's co-founder, revealed the company's ZEC holdings during a widespread cryptocurrency market upswing.

The privacy-centric cryptocurrency Zcash experienced approximately 20% appreciation in the last 24-hour period following an announcement by Matt Huang, Paradigm's co-founder, that his crypto investment company acquired an undisclosed amount of ZEC. This privacy-oriented token has been demonstrating superior performance relative to the general uptick observed throughout cryptocurrency markets.

The digital currency Zcash (ZEC), which allows participants to execute shielded transactions that hide both addresses and transaction values through the use of zero-knowledge proofs, was changing hands near $1,338 during Thursday's trading session. The token's impressive climb followed Huang's revelation on Wednesday that Paradigm maintains positions both as an investor in the Zcash Open Development Lab (ZODL) and as a holder of ZEC tokens.

The rally on Thursday, which exceeded 10%, pushed ZEC's one-month gains to approximately 160%, a stark contrast to Bitcoin's (BTC) more modest 18.2% appreciation over the identical timeframe, based on Coingecko data.

In his statement, Huang characterized Zcash as a "private complement to Bitcoin" and expressed support for its inflation-funded developer fund. He maintained that sustained long-term funding is crucial given the progression of AI-powered cyber capabilities and quantum computing technologies. Additionally, he voiced approval for integrating Zcash coin voting mechanisms with alternative governance structures to minimize uncertainty in its role as a monetary asset.

The fact that Paradigm had invested in the broader Zcash ecosystem was not new information. ZODL had previously disclosed in March a seed funding round exceeding $25 million, with participation from Paradigm, a16z crypto, Coinbase Ventures and Winklevoss Capital.

The upward movement in ZEC's price occurred alongside gains in the overall cryptocurrency market following the Federal Reserve's decision to increase rates by 25 basis points to 3.75%-4%, marking its first rate hike since 2023.

Privacy-focused cryptocurrencies have demonstrated notably stronger performance compared to the broader market. According to Glassnode data, the privacy coin sector stood 213% higher than its position at Bitcoin's October 2025 peak, whereas a comparable basket that excluded ZEC showed gains of approximately 85% during the past year.
