Ethena and FalconX Launch $1B Credit Facility Using USDe Reserve Assets

A new $1 billion lending facility will channel USDe backing assets toward overcollateralized institutional loans, diversifying Ethena's revenue streams beyond traditional crypto basis strategies.

Ethena and FalconX have introduced a $1 billion secured lending facility designed to channel assets supporting USDe into overcollateralized loans provided to institutional borrowers.

Operating through a special purpose vehicle structure, the facility designates FalconX as the loan originator and servicer, with responsibility for collateral management. Loan security assets will be maintained at qualified custodians, while the arrangement provides Ethena with exposure to institutional lending markets as a complementary revenue source for USDe backing assets, supplementing the crypto basis strategies the company has historically relied upon.

According to FalconX, the lending facility is designed to provide financing solutions for institutional trading strategies, corporate treasury management operations and payment services. Neither company revealed specific details about anticipated returns from the facility, the terms of individual loans, the identity of borrowing institutions or the initial amount of capital that has been allocated.

This agreement builds upon the existing partnership between FalconX and Ethena, with FalconX previously providing support for USDe through its institutional trading and financing service offerings.

Ethena's USDe, a synthetic asset pegged to the US dollar, currently holds a market capitalization of approximately $4 billion, based on data from DefiLlama. In contrast to fiat-backed stablecoins like USDT and USDC, USDe was engineered to sustain its dollar peg through the use of crypto collateral combined with short derivatives positions, generating yields partly through funding rates and basis spreads.
