Zcash positioned to compete with Bitcoin's market dominance amid rising privacy concerns, Grayscale reports

Despite a nearly 19-fold price surge over 12 months, ZEC's market cap remains below 1% of Bitcoin's, presenting potential upside opportunities, according to Grayscale.

As artificial intelligence adoption accelerates and raises concerns about AI-driven surveillance capabilities, Zcash may position itself as a significant competitor to Bitcoin's supremacy in the digital asset space, driven by growing demand for financial privacy, Grayscale suggests.

According to a fresh research analysis, Zach Pandl, Grayscale's head of research, indicated that Zcash (ZEC) possesses "second mover advantages" that might enable it to contest Bitcoin's (BTC) established network effects, where previous competitors like Litecoin (LTC) have been unsuccessful.

Financial privacy sits at the core of Pandl's thesis. With its ability to conceal transaction details, Zcash could become progressively more valuable as artificial intelligence technologies advance in their capability to examine financial activities on a massive scale, Grayscale contends.

The analysis follows ZEC's approximately 19-fold appreciation throughout the previous year. Notwithstanding these impressive returns, Zcash's valuation continues to represent under 1% of Bitcoin's market capitalization, a gap that Grayscale interprets as an indicator of additional upside potential should Zcash succeed in gaining market share.

Pandl recognized that Bitcoin's deep liquidity and established network constitute formidable protections of its leading position. Grayscale further cautioned that Zcash continues to be a high-risk investment opportunity and that any additional price appreciation may prove to be volatile and uneven.

Zcash ecosystem attracts institutional capital

As ZEC demonstrates robust price momentum, interest in the Zcash ecosystem continues to expand. According to recent Cointelegraph coverage, Cypherpunk Technologies, a privacy technology firm listed on Nasdaq, increased its Zcash holdings by purchasing a mining fleet from Winklevoss Capital through a $33.33 million equity-based transaction.

The mining operation has already been deployed across facilities in the United States, generating approximately 4.2 GSol/s of Equihash hashrate, which represents roughly 18% of the total computing power on the Zcash network. According to Cypherpunk, this transaction positioned its mining division as the largest active fleet operating on the network.
