The chief executives of Anthropic and OpenAI, Dario Amodei and Sam Altman respectively, will deliver a briefing to the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday, as the international body investigates the dangers posed by artificial intelligence and how they relate to global security matters.
CNBC reports that the participation of both Altman and Amodei has been verified by the UN. The meeting will also feature Clément Delangue, CEO of Hugging Face, along with Yoshua Bengio, who serves as co-chair of the UN's Independent International Scientific Panel on AI.
The Security Council session will focus on examining the increasing worries surrounding artificial intelligence's effect on global security, Reuters has reported. Chinese artificial intelligence firms DeepSeek and Moonshot have received invitations to deliver statements during the gathering, Reuters noted. While DeepSeek is anticipated to send representatives, the company's founder Liang Wenfeng will not be in attendance, according to the report which cited a source with knowledge of the situation.
In 2023, the Security Council held its initial formal conversation about artificial intelligence, Reuters reported, marking the beginning of governmental scrutiny into its security ramifications.
