Trump Media Group Announces End to Crypto.com Partnership Agreement

Trump Media and Technology Group, together with Crypto.com, will cancel their agreement to establish a CRO treasury company, attributing the decision to current market dynamics and strategic business considerations.

The Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), owned by US President Donald Trump, has decided to withdraw from its partnership agreement with the cryptocurrency exchange Crypto.com, choosing instead to concentrate efforts on a merger arrangement with the energy firm TAE.

According to initial coverage by Axios on Friday, TMTG's interim CEO Kevin McGurn announced the company's decision to abandon two separate agreements with Crypto.com that were designed to establish a $6.4 billion CRO treasury and incorporate prediction market features into the Truth Social platform. Representatives from Trump's media enterprise, the cryptocurrency exchange, and the special purpose acquisition company Yorkville Acquisition Corp cited "prevailing market conditions and shifting business and stakeholder priorities" as the primary factors behind terminating the treasury agreement.

In September 2025, TMTG unveiled the CRO treasury agreement, which outlined plans for President Trump's company to acquire billions of dollars in Crypto.com's CRO tokens, with the possibility of enabling Truth Social platform users to earn cryptocurrency rewards. Subsequently, the media platform made an October announcement revealing intentions to launch prediction market capabilities through a service called Truth Predict.

According to reports, McGurn stated that the choice to reverse course on the agreements was influenced primarily by competitive market dynamics as opposed to regulatory apprehensions related to the administration's oversight of the cryptocurrency sector. The US president remains under continued examination from numerous lawmakers who advocate for including ethics provisions in a crypto market structure bill designed to prevent conflicts of interest between the Trump family and their digital asset business ventures.
