Tokenized dairy cattle serve as collateral for Brazilian loan in landmark deal: Report

A groundbreaking $19,600 loan secured by ten tokenized dairy cows was recorded on Brazil's B3 exchange, marking one of the country's pioneering instances of using digitized livestock as lending collateral.

Brazil's B3 stock exchange has reportedly discovered an innovative application for dairy cattle by utilizing tokenized livestock to back a financial loan.

The financial arrangement consisted of a loan totaling 100,000 Brazilian reais ($19,600) that was collateralized by 10 dairy cows belonging to Fazenda Engenho Velho, a farm located in ParanĂ¡, a southern state in Brazil, with the cattle valued at approximately 120,000 Brazilian reais ($23,500). Brazilian investment fund Target FIDC orchestrated the arrangement, as reported by CNN Brasil.

Every individual cow was assigned a distinct digital token that connects to an encrypted digital identity, with AI-driven smart collars provided by agricultural technology company Cowmed tracking each animal's health status, minimizing the requirement for on-site physical inspections.

The financial arrangement presents an innovative approach for livestock producers to enhance their credit accessibility through the utilization of cattle as loan collateral. According to Cowmed, the company presently tracks approximately 100,000 dairy cows distributed across 1,000 Brazilian farming operations.

Cointelegraph has approached B3 for comment.
