S&P Dow Jones Indices partners with Kalshi to broaden financial prediction market offerings

The partnership will enable Kalshi to launch contracts linked to S&P DJI benchmarks, as the index provider considers leveraging prediction market information to create innovative gauges.

Prediction market platform Kalshi has entered into a partnership with S&P Dow Jones Indices, securing a collaboration that will enable the exchange to introduce event contracts based on the financial index provider's various benchmarks.

Based on Monday's public announcement, Kalshi will be designated as a preferred platform for launching contracts connected to S&P DJI indices, with contract settlements determined by official index figures released by the company.

Additionally, S&P DJI will investigate the creation of indexes utilizing Kalshi's prediction market information, which could potentially track market sentiment regarding economic trends, political events and sports competitions. These new gauges would rely on pricing data from Kalshi's event contracts to gauge market sentiment about forthcoming outcomes, as opposed to monitoring the results of conventional financial instruments.

Neither company revealed a specific timeline for launching either program. S&P DJI had not provided a response to Cointelegraph's inquiry for further information at the time of publication.

This partnership comes on the heels of traditional financial market participants making inroads into prediction markets. Intercontinental Exchange, the parent organization of the New York Stock Exchange, pledged as much as $2 billion to Polymarket in October 2025.

In March, Nasdaq submitted a filing to launch prediction market-style contracts based on the Nasdaq 100 Index, subsequently partnering with Kalshi in August to supply market surveillance technology.

S&P Global completes OpenZeppelin acquisition

The parent company of S&P Dow Jones Indices, S&P Global, disclosed separately on Monday that it has finalized its purchase of blockchain security company OpenZeppelin, enhancing its risk evaluation capabilities in the digital asset space. The acquisition was initially revealed in September and the financial details were not made public.

OpenZeppelin delivers smart contract security auditing services and development tools. Its publicly available contract libraries support more than $38 trillion in transferred value, while its security division has performed over 900 engagements, as stated by S&P Global.

OpenZeppelin will maintain its operations as an independent business unit led by founder Demian Brener, who will answer to Yann Le Pallec, president of S&P Global Ratings.

S&P Global has additionally broadened its digital asset risk evaluation efforts beyond smart contract security matters. Earlier this month, S&P Global Ratings introduced a framework designed for assessing crypto lending vaults across six risk categories, which include blockchain security, liquidity and governance.
