Seven fintech initiatives gain entry to Zimbabwe's regulatory sandbox program

Entry into the sandbox enables companies to conduct testing under oversight, though it doesn't provide automatic approval for commercial launch.

The securities watchdog in Zimbabwe has granted access to seven financial technology initiatives for its regulatory sandbox program, with the majority of this latest batch concentrated on tokenization solutions.

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Zimbabwe (SECZ) identified Zimbabwe Entrepreneurship Exchange, Ndarama Standard, Questview Brokers, Crowdaxe Capital, Procode Platforms, Financial Securities Exchange, or FINSEC, and Colmin Resources Zimbabwe as the authorized entrants.

The initiatives encompass blockchain-powered capital formation, crowdfunding platforms, synthetic trading systems and the tokenization of physical assets, securities and infrastructure developments, with tokenization being the primary focus for four out of the seven projects.

Based on SECZ's Regulatory Sandbox Guidelines, gaining entry to the sandbox enables initiatives to engage in supervised testing within a controlled regulatory environment, though successfully navigating the testing phase does not automatically ensure authorization for full-scale registration. Projects are still required to satisfy the regulator's registration criteria prior to launching commercial activities.

The strong presence of tokenization projects within this cohort demonstrates increasing enthusiasm for leveraging blockchain-powered financial instruments to expand participation in capital markets and incorporate assets that might otherwise remain illiquid into formally regulated investment frameworks.
