Senate Majority Shifts to Democratic Party Control
Control of the Senate changing hands may impact the future of the CLARITY Act, alter committee structures, and intensify congressional oversight of cryptocurrency ventures linked to Trump.

The Democratic Party has successfully secured control of the United States Senate, as confirmed by the Associated Press.
The Senate majority was clinched following Democrat Senator Josh Turek's victory in the Iowa Senate race, pushing the total number of Democrats and independent senators who align with them to 51 seats.
This outcome transforms the prospects for the previously stalled CLARITY Act and will decide which members of Congress assume leadership positions on committees that provide oversight for the cryptocurrency industry.
With Democrats in control, there is expected to be heightened congressional examination of crypto-related businesses associated with Trump, as well as greater scrutiny of regulatory agency decisions. The party in control of the Senate will also hold sway over the confirmation process for future presidential appointees to positions within regulatory agencies.
"It's too early to say exactly what this means for crypto, but one thing is clear: nothing will pass without cross-partisan support."
Jerome de Tychey, president of Ethereum France and co-founder of EthCC
"The CLARITY Act failed its Senate procedural vote 49 to 50 in September, and if it isn't passed by January, the next Congress starts again from scratch. So the industry will have to go back to the table and make the case for blockchain again, on substance."
According to de Tychey, certain regulatory demands from Democrats have the potential to bolster the industry's regulatory structure.
"Conflict-of-interest rules and customer protection obligations are things a mature industry should welcome. In Europe, we already live with them under MiCA."
He stated, making reference to the Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation implemented by the European Union.
Nevertheless, he cautioned against permitting cryptocurrency policy to become divided along partisan political lines.
"The biggest risk for crypto in America is for it to become entrenched as a partisan issue; that could set the US back several years."
Fred Hsu, co-founder and CEO of D3, a core contributor to Doma Protocol, echoed similar sentiments, noting that lasting and effective regulation would necessitate bipartisan backing from both major political parties.
"The midterms are a good reminder that the industry can't rely on one party to deliver them, and should be making its case to lawmakers on both sides now."
Fred Hsu, co-founder and CEO of D3
Hsu made these remarks in comments that were provided in advance of the election.
