Real-World Asset Trading Surges to Represent Third of Hyperliquid's Q2 Volume

Real-world asset tokenization represented over one-third of Hyperliquid's trading volume in the second quarter, contributing 6.6% to the protocol's $169 million in quarterly earnings.

Trading activity involving tokenized real-world assets (RWA) has expanded to represent more than 33% of all transactions occurring on the Hyperliquid decentralized exchange platform.

The share of trading volume attributed to HIP-3 RWA perpetual contracts climbed to 32.2% throughout the second quarter of 2026, marking a substantial rise from the 20.7% recorded in Q1 and the modest 1.8% observed in Q4 of 2025. During the second quarter, RWA trading on Hyperliquid reached a volume of $213 billion, as documented in the platform's quarterly report released on Wednesday.

According to Hyperliquid, RWA trading activity contributed 6.6% to the protocol's total quarterly revenue, which amounted to $169 million. From this $169 million in revenue, the platform disclosed that it distributed $141 million back to token holders via Hyperliquid (HYPE) token buyback programs. The platform also announced that it has surpassed $1 billion in cumulative protocol revenue since inception.

For the first time in its history, RWAs emerged as Hyperliquid's dominant trading category last month, with RWAs representing 52% of the platform's aggregate weekly trading volume during the period spanning July 13 through July 19, demonstrating the escalating appetite for tokenized assets among users of the decentralized exchange.

By the conclusion of July, trading volume for RWA perpetual futures contracts reached 99.2% of the volume recorded for Bitcoin (BTC) perpetual contracts on the Hyperliquid platform.

The number of RWA holders grew by 56% to reach 1.6 million investors throughout the previous month, while the aggregate value of tokenized assets onchain increased by 3.3% to $37.8 billion, based on statistics from data provider RWA.xyz.
