Pudgy Penguins discontinues Pudgy Party mobile gaming experience

The Pudgy Penguins team is discontinuing Pudgy Party development to concentrate efforts on Pudgy World, marking yet another Web3 gaming venture that failed to achieve a viable business model.

The Pudgy Penguins non-fungible token (NFT) project has announced it is discontinuing its mobile gaming title Pudgy Party and ceasing all additional development work.

Through a statement published on X this past Saturday, the development team revealed plans to redirect gaming-related resources to Pudgy World, a browser-accessible platform that represents the primary gaming offering within the Pudgy Penguins ecosystem.

"We've made the difficult decision to wind down Pudgy Party and halt further development," the team wrote, noting that Pudgy World presents superior opportunities for expansion and bringing new audiences into the Pudgy Penguins brand.

Pudgy Party made its debut in August 2025 and achieved more than 500,000 downloads through Google Play exclusively. According to Pudgy Party's metrics, combined downloads across all platforms have reached beyond 1 million.

The Pudgy Penguins project is streamlining its gaming strategy to center on one primary product as it continues diversifying beyond the NFT space through various initiatives including toys, gaming, licensing and entertainment ventures.

The overall NFT market capitalization rose to approximately $1.5 billion on Monday from over $1.3 billion on Friday, per CoinGecko data, though this figure stays well beneath the 2022 high point of more than $17 billion.

Crypto games struggle to find sustainable business models

The discontinuation of Pudgy Party arrives alongside news that Fishing Frenzy, another Web3 gaming initiative, and Uncharted, its development studio, revealed plans to shut down operations following their inability to develop a successful crypto-gaming business approach.

"Despite our best efforts, we were ultimately unable to prove our thesis on crypto gaming and could not find product-market-business fit," Fishing Frenzy said in an X post on Monday.

According to the development team, the organization dedicated the previous year to experimenting with various strategies and targeting different user segments, yet failed to discover a direction that provided sufficient confidence to move forward.

Operations for Fishing Frenzy will conclude with server shutdowns scheduled for June 25 at 2:00 am UTC. Sales of USDC packages through the project have been terminated, while the FISH token has been converted to spend-only status and rendered untradable.

According to the team's announcement, the remaining USDC held within the FISH/USDC liquidity pool will be allocated back to community participants and those who have staked tokens.
