KB Kookmin Bank Partners with JPMorgan's Kinexys for Blockchain Payment Solution

KB Kookmin Bank, the nation's top financial institution in South Korea, plans to integrate JPMorgan's blockchain technology to facilitate dollar-denominated international transactions for businesses engaged in trade operations spanning 10 nations.

KB Kookmin Bank, the leading financial institution in South Korea, plans to roll out a cross-border payment solution powered by blockchain technology for companies involved in international trade this August, utilizing JPMorgan's Kinexys network, as reported by several domestic news outlets.

JPMorgan's blockchain platform designed for institutional payments, tokenization and digital assets goes by the name Kinexys, which previously operated under the Onyx brand.

The initial phase of the service will facilitate transfers denominated in US dollars spanning 10 nations, which include the United States, Singapore, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Reports from Yonhap indicate that the system will work in conjunction with the current SWIFT payment infrastructure to enable almost instantaneous international payment processing and currency exchange settlement.

Based on a research report published by S&P Global in April, KB Financial Group, which serves as the parent company of KB Kookmin Bank, holds the position of South Korea's biggest lender measured by assets. Additionally, the financial group secured the 28th spot among the largest banking institutions throughout the Asia-Pacific region, boasting total assets amounting to $552.76 billion.
