In-App Stock and Crypto Trading Set to Launch on X Within Weeks, Confirms Product Chief Nikita Bier

Nikita Bier, who serves as X's product head, has confirmed that Smart Cashtags functionality will enable the platform's users to execute stock and cryptocurrency trades without leaving the application.

X social media platform users will soon gain the ability to execute stock and cryptocurrency transactions directly within the app through the forthcoming Smart Cashtags functionality, as confirmed by the platform's product head, Nikita Bier.

In a Saturday post on X, Bier stated: "We are launching a number of features in a couple of weeks, including Smart Cashtags that will enable you to trade stocks and crypto directly from the timeline."

The upcoming Smart Cashtags feature was first announced by Bier in January, when he hinted at the potential for in-app trading capabilities through an image that showcased the feature in his announcement, though without providing official verification at that time.

Back in 2022, the X platform rolled out a rudimentary Cashtag feature that monitored stock and cryptocurrency prices for major assets while delivering graphical financial information for supported digital currencies and equities, including Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH), though this functionality was later removed from the platform.

An inquiry was sent by Cointelegraph to X regarding the forthcoming feature, though no reply had been received at the time this article was published.

As a central hub for cryptocurrency-related discourse and activity, the X platform's incorporation of in-app trading capabilities represents another step toward fulfilling owner Elon Musk's publicly stated ambition of transforming it into an "everything app," drawing parallels to WeChat, the Chinese messaging and social networking application that features built-in payment functionalities.

On Wednesday, Elon Musk shared new details regarding the launch timeline for X Money, which represents the platform's payment functionality designed to enable users to transfer funds to one another, offering capabilities comparable to Venmo or Cash App.

During his artificial intelligence company xAI's "All Hands" presentation, Musk revealed that the X Money feature remains in a limited beta testing period that will continue for the next two months, with plans for a global launch following the completion of this testing phase.

"This is intended to be the place where all money is. The central source of all monetary transactions,"

Based on Musk's figures, the X platform currently attracts approximately 600 million average monthly users. He elaborated further, stating: "We want it to be such that if you wanted to, you could live your life on the X app."
