Fidelity report highlights Solana's improved stability while flagging concentration concerns

While Solana's mainnet has maintained a two-year streak without outages, Fidelity warns that concentrations in staking, hosting infrastructure, and client software require ongoing scrutiny.

According to a recent report from Fidelity, Solana has demonstrated considerable advancement in overall network health, particularly in areas of resilience, economic security, and various performance metrics.

While the blockchain network has experienced zero reported mainnet outages over the past two years, the analysis from Fidelity's Center for Applied Technology (FCAT) highlights that concentrated positions in stake distribution, hosting infrastructure, and client software present potential vulnerabilities that could jeopardize this track record.

Economic security receives strong support from robust staking participation rates and incentive structures designed to reward validators for optimal performance, the report indicated. Additionally, the network benefits from minimal latency, enhanced capacity capabilities, and cost-effective transaction fees that facilitate practical implementation at a large scale.

However, the analysis emphasized that multiple aspects related to decentralization and resilience require ongoing monitoring, particularly the concentration of stake among a limited number of validator identities and operators.

On Aug. 21, Cointelegraph covered the news that Solana had successfully decreased its slot time to 350 milliseconds, representing the first reduction of this kind since the network's launch, as confirmed by Jacob Creech, the Solana Foundation's vice president of technology.

During June, the Solana Foundation announced its intentions to further reduce slot times down to 200ms, contending that such improvements would enhance latency and expedite transaction confirmations across the blockchain network. The roadmap includes three additional reductions of 50ms each.
