Ethics disclosure reveals Trump's Strategy stock investment of up to $100K

In a newly released ethics filing, President Donald Trump revealed purchasing shares of Strategy in July while his administration pushes forward with cryptocurrency policy initiatives via Congress and federal regulatory bodies.

According to a filing made public Tuesday by the US Office of Government Ethics, President Donald Trump revealed he acquired between $50,001 and $100,000 in Strategy shares during the month of July.

Documentation within the filing indicates that Trump made a purchase of Strategy shares valued at $50,001 to $100,000 on July 27, which came after an earlier acquisition worth $1,001 to $15,000 made just three days prior. As the globe's largest corporate holder of Bitcoin traded on public exchanges, Strategy maintains a position of 846,000 BTC, based on information from BitcoinTreasuries.net data.

The filing further revealed Trump's involvement in transactions with various other cryptocurrency-related firms, including an acquisition of Coinbase stock alongside the sale of shares in Bitcoin mining companies MARA Holdings and CleanSpark during July. Among all crypto-related transactions listed in the disclosure, the July 27 Strategy acquisition represented the most significant value.

This transaction equaled Trump's most substantial Strategy purchase on record to date, which was a $50,001 to $100,000 acquisition made on Feb. 12, based on BitcoinTreasuries.NET records. Throughout the current year, his accounts have additionally documented multiple smaller transactions involving both purchases and sales of Strategy stock.

Because transactions are documented using value ranges instead of maintaining a continuous share count, the filings fail to reveal the exact number of Strategy shares currently held within Trump's investment portfolio.

Broader portfolio activity dwarfs Strategy acquisition

Within the context of Trump's overall July portfolio movements, the Strategy acquisition constituted a relatively modest component. Documentation reveals he divested between $5 million and $25 million worth of both Microsoft and Amazon stocks on July 20, in addition to executing multiple transactions for purchases and sales ranging in value from $1 million to $5 million.

White House representatives informed CNBC on Tuesday that third-party financial institutions independently oversee Trump's portfolio of stocks and bonds, operating without any direction from Trump or members of his family.

According to data from Yahoo Finance, Strategy shares have experienced a surge of nearly 30% across the most recent five trading days and approximately 37% throughout the past month.

Filing released during ongoing crypto policy initiatives

The revelation of Trump's Strategy holdings arrives during a period when his administration has championed multiple policy measures designed to bolster the cryptocurrency industry within the United States, despite comprehensive market structure legislation experiencing gridlock in Congress.

While the Senate was unable to move forward with the CLARITY Act on Sept. 15, federal regulatory agencies have proceeded with implementation using their current statutory powers. Just two days following the unsuccessful cloture vote, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) authorized restricted onchain trading for tokenized US stocks through a temporary exemption, as the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) simultaneously relaxed registration obligations for specific software providers that facilitate access to regulated derivatives trading platforms.

Additionally, the CFTC submitted an expanded crypto market rulemaking proposal to the White House for examination on Sept. 17. Named "Regulation Crypto Asset Transactions and Regulation Crypto Asset Markets," this proposal remains in early developmental phases and has not yet evolved into an official regulatory proposal.

The administration's focus on cryptocurrency policy has also incorporated Bitcoin directly. During the previous week, the House Financial Services Committee approved legislation by a 28-21 vote to move forward a bill that would establish Trump's Strategic Bitcoin Reserve through statutory authorization and mandate that any Bitcoin deposited into the reserve must be retained for a minimum period of 20 years.

Based on data compiled by Arkham Intelligence, the US government presently maintains custody of an estimated 324,527 BTC.
