Bitcoin Battles to Surpass 2026 Opening Price: Weekly Market Overview
Bulls in the Bitcoin market have intensified their push toward range peaks, with the yearly opening price from 2026 representing the crucial resistance barrier ahead.

The world's leading cryptocurrency Bitcoin (BTC) is targeting a critical price level as the BTC/USD pair approaches the threshold of flipping the 2026 yearly candle into positive territory.
Key points:
- Bulls pushing Bitcoin have momentarily touched $87,000 across certain trading platforms, though the yearly opening level at $87,570 for 2026 continues to present persistent resistance.
- Market participants are shifting their focus toward bond markets in anticipation of Wednesday's auction for 10-year notes and the release of Federal Reserve meeting minutes.
- The BTC/USD trading pair has shaken off what is typically a sluggish beginning to the month. Historical data reveals October gains have averaged 18.7% dating back to 2013.
Bitcoin faces next resistance challenge at 2026 yearly opening
The leading cryptocurrency maintains its struggle with range peaks following the confirmation of its strongest weekly close since the latter part of January, settling at $86,532 on the Bitstamp exchange. Information sourced from TradingView demonstrates temporary spikes reaching $87,000 in the aftermath of the weekly close, representing Bitcoin's fourth effort to breach higher levels since September 21. Market bulls have thus far been unable to successfully recapture the yearly opening price point of $87,570.
When examining shorter time frames, liquidity hunting operations continue to drive price movements. In a pattern resembling the previous week, the BTC/USD pair experienced liquidations of adjacent short positions in the vicinity of $85,500, while substantial bid and ask orders accumulated around the current spot price, resulting in constrained volatility. Information obtained from CoinGlass reveals concentrations positioned at $83,700 alongside the yearly opening price.
"Bitcoin continues to be sandwiched between the ~ $82500 key support and the ~ $86700 resistance ahead," trader and analyst Rekt Capital wrote in his latest X analysis.
According to Rekt Capital's assessment, maintaining $82,500 as crucial support is essential to prevent falling back into the earlier 2026 trading range spanning $60,000 to $80,000. Conversely, achieving a conclusive breakthrough above $86,700 would clear the way toward an elevated range featuring $93,700 as its upper boundary.
Bond markets take center stage following 24-year peaks
With a relatively subdued calendar of macroeconomic data releases in the United States this week, bond markets will command primary attention as market participants have reduced expectations for Federal Reserve interest rate increases.
During the previous week, yields on both 10-year and 30-year bonds reached 5.34% and 5.69% respectively — marking heights unseen since the year 2002. These yields experienced only marginal declines following disappointing nonfarm payrolls figures before recovering to eliminate the majority of their retreat. As of Monday's writing, the 10-year yield was positioned at 5.25%.
"The bond market is in the spotlight this week," trading resource The Kobeissi Letter summarized in an X post on Sunday.
Wednesday will see the Federal Reserve release minutes from the September Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) gathering, during which policymakers decided to raise interest rates by 0.25%. Following that decision, market anticipations regarding additional policy tightening have fluctuated dramatically. According to data from CME Group's FedWatch Tool, the likelihood of an additional 0.25% rate increase at the October FOMC meeting stood at 70% one week prior before plummeting to present levels of merely 18%.
However, with prevailing consensus continuing to favor a rate hike in December, market analysts anticipate the Fed maintaining a hawkish stance through the conclusion of the year, consequently keeping headwinds in place for cryptocurrency and risk-based assets.
"I think that's the right move because I don't think this report necessarily changes the story for the Fed," Timothy Chubb, chief investment officer at Girard Advisory Services, told CNBC about the post-payrolls yield rebound.
In Chubb's view, the Federal Reserve will persist in maintaining rates at elevated levels for an extended duration, citing persistent inflation and continued oil price volatility resulting from ongoing Middle East tensions.
The August release of the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) index, recognized as the Fed's "preferred" measure of inflation, had minimal influence on market evaluations of inflation trajectories despite registering below anticipated levels. A portion of the decline was likely attributable to modifications in the index's calculation methodology, as Kobeissi contended at that time. The subsequent significant inflation data point will arrive with the Consumer Price Index (CPI), scheduled for publication on Oct. 14.
Bitcoin price kicks off historically bullish month
Seasonal patterns continue to capture attention among those tracking Bitcoin markets as October has begun with positive BTC price movement.
The onchain analytics provider CryptoQuant indicates that Bitcoin has already navigated through what is conventionally a challenging period during the month's opening days.
"Bitcoin's first three days of October have historically been its weakest three-day stretch of the month, averaging a 0.66% decline. 2026 has already held up better," contributor Andrew Kamsky wrote on Sunday.
The BTC/USD pair registered a 1.4% increase during October's initial three days, with present month-to-date gains standing at 2.7%. Measuring from the Oct. 1 closing price through the Oct. 3 closing price, the trading pair successfully avoided negative returns, contrasting with the historical average of -0.66% for this timeframe, according to Kamsky's findings.
Data compiled by CoinGlass demonstrates that averaging performance since 2013, Bitcoin has concluded October trading 18.7% higher, projecting a 2026 price target approaching $100,000. Throughout the preceding 13 years, only three October periods have resulted in negative monthly performance, with the most significant downside movement of -13% occurring in 2014.
In earlier coverage, Cointelegraph documented Bitcoin's remarkably robust third-quarter performance, which produced quarterly returns exceeding 40% — representing the strongest Q3 outcome since the bull market rally of 2017.
