Base Network Debuts Tokenized Equities Trading with Chainlink Oracle Support

The Base blockchain has introduced B20 tokenized equities for qualified international traders, enabling round-the-clock stock trading and integration with decentralized finance platforms.

On Monday, Coinbase's Base network introduced tokenized US equities trading capabilities, complemented by a Chainlink oracle integration that delivers real-time pricing information to enable their utilization throughout the decentralized finance ecosystem.

The Chainlink Data Feeds will deliver real-time pricing information for Coinbase's suite of tokenized equities, which encompasses major technology companies such as Nvidia, Apple, Meta and Alphabet. This oracle infrastructure enables DeFi platforms to incorporate these digital assets into various financial applications, including lending protocols, decentralized trading venues and sophisticated financial instruments, with functionality extending to their use as loan collateral.

Based on Chainlink's technical documentation, these price feeds determine each token's value by combining the current stock market price with a Coinbase-provided multiplier that adjusts for dividend distributions and corporate restructuring events.

These equities are minted as B20 tokens directly on Base, which operates as Coinbase's layer-2 scaling solution, with availability limited to international users in approved territories. Every token provides a direct ownership claim to an actual stock share maintained by Alpaca, a licensed brokerage and custody provider operating under regulatory oversight from the Abu Dhabi Global Market, as outlined by Base. Token holders can maintain custody in non-custodial wallets and execute transactions at any time throughout the day.

According to Base, these tokenized equities are designed for seamless integration into the current DeFi technology stack, enabling use cases such as depositing tokenized Nvidia equity as collateral for credit facilities on Aave or contributing tokenized Apple shares to liquidity pools on decentralized trading platforms. Additional Coinbase tokenized equity offerings are anticipated to roll out on Base over the subsequent weeks.

This development arrives amid expanding momentum in the tokenized securities sector. The aggregate market capitalization of tokenized equities has climbed to approximately $2.48 billion, reflecting a 5.2% increase during the previous 30 days, based on statistics from RWA.xyz. Transfer volume on a monthly basis has escalated to $27.28 billion, meanwhile the total count of token holders has exceeded 2.1 million.
