Witt Postpones National Guard Duty to Navigate CLARITY Through Senate

Patrick Witt, the White House's principal cryptocurrency adviser, has postponed his scheduled military service commitment, enabling him to stay in the nation's capital as senators gear up to deliberate on the CLARITY Act.

Patrick Witt, the administration's leading cryptocurrency policy adviser, announced he has decided against taking his previously planned end-of-month leave for military service obligations, a move that will keep him stationed at the White House to guide the CLARITY Act through its critical Senate phase.

"Reports emerged last week indicating I was scheduled to depart for required training in connection with my duties in the Georgia Army National Guard, precisely as Clarity approaches the Senate floor for consideration," Witt communicated through a post on X this Monday.

"Though my dedication to completing my military service requirement remains unwavering, I am pleased to share that my training schedule has been postponed, enabling me to remain engaged with this initiative until its conclusion," he continued.

The CLARITY Act, legislation designed to establish the nation's first all-encompassing regulatory structure for cryptocurrency markets, confronts a critical Aug. 8 deadline for Senate passage before lawmakers enter their summer recess. Witt holds the position of principal White House negotiator for this legislative proposal.

Since assuming his role as executive director of the President's Council of Advisors for Digital Assets last August, Witt had been scheduled to begin Judge Advocate General (JAG) training with the Georgia Army National Guard starting July 27. This specialized training program would certify him for service as a legal officer within the Guard.

A Tuesday report from Crypto In America revealed that Witt had previously postponed his required military training back in April to continue his White House duties focused on CLARITY Act negotiations, which extended beyond initial projections. This marks the second occasion Witt has rescheduled his training commitment.

Harry Jung to leave White House Crypto Council

The news of Witt maintaining his White House position coincides with an announcement from Harry Jung, who serves as Deputy Director of the President's Council of Advisors for Digital Assets, regarding his departure from the administration.

"Two weeks from now, I will be departing government service filled with tremendous appreciation," Jung shared via his X account on Monday. "The past two years have fundamentally transformed America's stance on cryptocurrency. I take pride in everything we've achieved together."

According to Crypto In America, Jung had been designated to assume Witt's crypto council duties during what was expected to be his military leave period.
