Fireblocks denies claims of ongoing $2.5B acquisition negotiations with Visa

In a statement to Cointelegraph, Fireblocks rejected claims of ongoing acquisition discussions with Visa valued at $2.5 billion, characterizing them as "not true at present time," though Visa refused to address the speculation.

Fireblocks, a provider of cryptocurrency custody solutions and infrastructure services, has pushed back against claims suggesting that global payments leader Visa is engaged in advanced-stage negotiations to purchase the firm for roughly $2.5 billion.

"We are aware of the rumors about a possible acquisition of Fireblocks by Visa. This is news to us, and not true at present time," a spokesperson representing Fireblocks stated to Cointelegraph during correspondence on Thursday.

A Thursday report from Axios, which cited numerous sources familiar with the matter, indicated that the financial services behemoth was conducting late-stage acquisition talks with Fireblocks for a deal valued at around $2.5 billion.

The purported acquisition price tag would mark a significant markdown from the company's most recent publicly announced valuation exceeding $8 billion, which Fireblocks revealed after completing a $550 million Series E financing round in January 2022. Information aggregator Traxcn continues to reference the $8 billion valuation figure as recently as Dec. 11, 2025.

When contacted by Cointelegraph, a representative for Visa stated that the organization maintains a policy against providing commentary on "rumors or speculation."
