BTC holds steady following 3% decline as artificial intelligence concerns trigger renewed equity market turbulence

The BTC/USD pair remains under the $82,000 threshold on Friday as equities face challenges from resurfacing concerns about AI financing.

Bitcoin (BTC) maintained trading activity beneath the $82,000 mark heading into Friday's opening bell on Wall Street, while equity markets experienced additional downward pressure stemming from anxieties surrounding artificial intelligence funding.

Key points:

  • Bitcoin encountered difficulty recovering after experiencing a decline exceeding 3% during Thursday's session. The digital asset momentarily fell under the $81,000 level.
  • Concerns over AI infrastructure investment continued to weigh on market sentiment as CoreWeave, a neocloud infrastructure company, tumbled to its lowest point in 17 months.
  • The cryptocurrency market's downward movement resulted in the liquidation of long positions valued at $280 million over a 24-hour period, coinciding with Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) outflows reaching $635 million.

Market analysis highlights potential AI "credit stress" contagion risks

Trading data from TradingView indicated that BTC/USD found stability following a 3.2% loss on Thursday, with the pair touching a low of $80,840 on the Bitstamp exchange.

Investor anxiety regarding the artificial intelligence sector's profitability and the expense of providing default insurance for major industry participants resurfaced during the current week. CoreWeave, operating as a neocloud infrastructure provider, emerged as one of the most significantly affected stocks, declining 15.5% for the week through the conclusion of Thursday's United States trading period, representing its weakest performance since May 2025. The downward pressure intensified after Bernstein analysts reduced their price target from $74 down to $51.

"The spread of credit stress across the neocloud infrastructure sector has triggered broader equity market weakness as institutional investors evaluate capital expenditure commitments and profitability across technology firms dependent on AI infrastructure expansion," crypto trading company QCP Capital wrote in analysis.

During Friday's session, renewed selling pressure affected equity markets throughout Asia. The KOSPI Composite Index in South Korea commenced trading at the 5,402-point level before experiencing a decline to a low of 5,305 points, reaching its weakest position since the latter part of July. The index ultimately concluded the session with a gain of 0.3% for the day.

In remarks delivered to CNBC during Thursday's broadcast, Jensen Huang, the chief executive officer of Nvidia, discussed a "scarcity of capital" that is particularly affecting neocloud infrastructure development projects.

"The demand [for] the capital is much greater than the availability of the capital,"

In earlier coverage, Cointelegraph provided reporting on Tesla's capital expenditure falling short of market expectations, even though the company's Q3 earnings results largely aligned with analyst projections.

According to QCP Capital's analysis, the capital expenditure data "reinforced concerns that elevated financing costs will constrain the pace of artificial intelligence infrastructure buildout and potentially reduce expected return profiles for capital-intensive projects."

Cryptocurrency long position liquidations remain elevated during drop beneath $81,000

Investment flows directed toward exchange-traded fund products demonstrated significant reactions to the recent price fluctuations within Bitcoin's localized trading corridor spanning from $80,000 to $87,000.

During Thursday's trading session, spot Bitcoin ETFs in the United States recorded net capital outflows totaling $635 million, representing the most substantial single-session withdrawal since the final days of June.

Meanwhile, information compiled by CoinGlass demonstrated that market participants were taken by surprise when the BTC/USD trading pair retreated toward the lower end of its established range. Liquidations across the broader cryptocurrency market reached a combined total of $336 million during the 24-hour period concluding at noon Coordinated Universal Time, with long positions accounting for $281 million of that figure.
